With reference to your letter of the 7th instant, F 3470/84/10, I am commanded by My Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to acquaint you, for the information of the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, that They concur in the draft of the despatch that it is proposed to send to Sir M. Lampson regarding the carriage of contraband by British ships.

2. My Lords observe that the Colonial Office has

not been furnished with a copy of your letter and They suggest that the Hong Kong Government may be interested

in this matter so far as it applies to the West River.

3. Coples of this letter have been sent to the

Board of Trade and Home Office.
